Local shops (see below) sell distinctively Tasmanian goods, old-fashioned sweets, "baked delights" and so forth. There are many quality galleries and craft shops. The atmosphere of genteel Richmond makes it one of the most popular visitor destinations in the state.

Apart from the Richmond Bridge and Gaol, one of the most popular attraction is Old Hobart Town, a remarkable scale model of Hobart in the 1820's which is highly detailed and historically accurate. Also well worth a visit is The Maze, a two-stage maze with surprise endings.

Richmond has a multitude of quality accommodation options, including two 4½-star, twelve 4-star, and four 3½-star facilities.

At historic Hatcher's Manor you can step back into the magical past in this manor house built in the gothic revival style. Each day when you return to the manor you'll be entranced all over again by the sight of the fresh white walls, the round tower, the steeply pitched roof and the mullioned windows. You'll want to stroll in the gardens, sniffing the roses and pondering the days events. After a restful night in your luxury room with its ensuite and antique furniture, and after a hearty country breakfast, perhaps you cast a few flies over the lake - maybe even hooked a trout? Perhaps you talked to the animals - the ducks, horses and sheep. Perhaps you strolled through the manor farms orchards and pastures, or had a swim in the indoor pool. Maybe you walked around Richmond, admiring the Georgian cottages and little shops. And now its nearly the end of another perfect day. Perhaps you'll stroll back to Richmond, to one of the fine restaurants, or just have a simple barbecue in the lingering twilight. Hatchers Richmond Manor is also an animal wildlife refuge - so you'll get to meet the wildlife.
